Evening Eclectic 02/11/2018

This week on Evening Eclectic, which has moved to Sunday from 10-midnight EDT on wruu.org and 107.5 FM in Savannah, features jazz works inspired by classical music. There is so much to choose from that we will sample from various recordings. I will play the Bad Plus’ version of Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” and Django Reinhart and Stephane Grappelli’s version of Ravel’s “Bolero”. Also from Django Reinhart, Stephane Grappelli and Eddie South is a version of Bach’s Violin Concerto in D Minor. Uri Caine’s reflection on the 1st and 4th movements of Mahler’s Symphony #5. An absolutely marvelous jazz interpretation of the first movement of Mozart’s Symphony #40 by the Klazz Brothers and Cuba Percussion called “Mombozart”. And a taste of Duke Ellington doing Grieg’s “Peer Gynt Suite” and Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite”. I will be leading off with music by Thomas Bergeron from his album “Sacred Feast” which was inspired by the composer Olivier Messiaen. I will definitely be doing another week of this sometime as this music is so wonderful and there is so much to choose from. Also I may sneak some rock versions of classical music in as well, who can tell.
