Our Mission

To bring local community radio to Savannah’s diverse and dynamic community, and provide a voice to local organizations, events, and individuals in alignment with our “UUCS” values. [Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah.

Our Core Values

WRUU 107.5 fm-lp, “Savannah Soundings” Community Radio with a Global Soul is a ministry of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah [501-c3] Its Executive Task Force [ETF] made of members of the community and the UUCS, work to bring programming to Savanna’s diverse and under served community groups, both secular and non-secular programs, music and talk, live and prerecorded content.  WRUU 107.5 fm-lp Savannah Soundings “Community radio with a global soul,” can be heard on car stereos and through headphones from downtown to midtown to Georgetown to Pooler, with signals reported as far away as Tybee Island. and over the world via streaming, in a fiscally responsible and sustainable way, and  in alignment with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah values:

1st  Principle: The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
2nd Principle: Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
3rd Principle: Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
4th Principle: A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;

7th Principle: Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
8th Principle: Build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppression in ourselves and our institutions.  

WRUU's Executive Task Force 

The Executive Task Force (ETF) Oversees that all the committees develop policies that ensure that WRUU provides a diverse radio programming for the people of metro Savannah, in a fiscally responsible and sustainable way, aligned to our values. 

WRUU’s Executive Task Force Composition:

    • Voting members include:
      11 individuals with 2 representing the UUCS, 5 representing the 5 WRUU Teams (Fundraising, Governance, Infrastructure, Media, and Programming), 2 At – Large.
    • Non- voting ex – officio members of the ETF are the:
      Immediate Past-Chairperson. UUCS Minister. Community Advisory Board (CAB) chair members, a Volunteer Coordinator, and a Community Advisory Board Liaison.
    • Selection of ETF members:
      Team Leader members: Each Team Leader (5 Teams) is chosen by the Team itself in consultation with the ETF chair.  UU members: The UUCS shall choose 2 ETF members.  The 5 Team and 2 UU members of the ETF shall select 2 At – Large members.
    • ETF officers and their functions:
      Chosen via consensus, officers of the ETF include: 1) Chairperson, 2) Chairperson-Elect, 3) Secretary, and 4) Treasurer. Only ETF members may serve as ETF Officers. The Officers shall be elected at the September ETF Meeting. No person may hold more than one office at a time.

WRUU’s Executive Task Force Members 2023-2024

The ETF meets once a month on the third Monday of the month. A quorum of 5 ETF members is necessary to conduct business.

WRUU’s Executive Task Force Committee Teams

    • Fundraising – Paying the Bills
      The Fundraising team task is to put find ways to get financial support through community sponsorships and grants that will help to cover our daily cost of broadcasting, including utilities, and repair or replacement of equipment by creating fundraising campaigns, and events.
    • Governance – Keeping It Accountable
      The governance team will make sure that WRUU serve the community, maintain the highest ethical standards, and comply with all regulations, best ethical practices of media/communications, and identify unmet community needs
    • Infrastructure – Building the Station
      The infrastructure team will work with our radio engineer on the design, nuts and bolts of building of the transmission system and studio. Including studio spaces, cost analysis of studio transmission and equipment, and work with engineer to ensure licensing and proper equipment requirements are met.
    • Media – Tuning In the Community
      The media team will write and distribute press releases, and manage the Savannah Soundings website, and social media presence, and the “Street Team”.  Develop PSA guidelines.
    • Programming – Creating the Programs
      The program team will work with community to identify programming that supports WRUU’s vision, mission, and values. Research on music and syndicated content licensing,  provide a balance between music, news, informational, commentary, and literary programs, and review community & congregational surveys to identify areas of programming need/interest.
    • Underwriting The Underwriting team operates under the fundraising team and its task is to  build sponsorship programs also known as “Underwriter”, with local businesses and individuals.
    • Volunteering Operates under Media Team, and oversees volunteers on basic office support, fundraising, serving on any of our committees, pledge drives, and on the “Street Team” attending festivals or live music events. We need volunteers all the time.

WRUU’s Community Advisory Board.

The Community Advisory Board operates independently of our governing body. Most importantly, they assure that the public is heard. Please consider dedicating a bit of your time – only four meetings per year for two years – to serve your community by helping to provide a voice for those around you.
