Warp Speed Ethics (pt. II)

A conversation with Dr. Gail Van Norman

Last week, Russia announced its (dubious) approval of a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, while other candidates have entered (promising) phase three trials. The U.S. government public–private partnership called Operation Warp Speed is unprecedented with regard to how quickly researchers and companies have developed potential vaccines as well as the levels of funding our coffers will bear. But how willing are Americans to take the vaccine? How can (and should) they be convinced? And what other options, whether innovations or old techniques, can help us recover from the current pandemic? University of Washington anesthesiologist and bioethicist Dr. Gail Van Norman joins Leigh again this week to explore the politics and ethics of OWS.

Please note: Due to the pandemic and geographic distance, this episode was recorded via cell phone. There is intermittent “popping” during the conversation, and we have attempted to minimize this in editing as much as possible. Thank you for your understanding.
