Co-hosts Jessie, Opollo, Robo, Barbara and newest member of the team, Holly, shared our opinions as we move forward into what isn’t unchartered territory. We have had these warnings before, particularly in 1945, after the USA detonated 2 atomic bombs on a civilian population in Japan. Life went on and humans moved to mitigate (but not eliminate) a risk that has not resulted in human extinction. Is the AI warning more of the same, and if so, to what end? Do these giants, Musk, Altman, Amodei, Hassabi, and Zuckerberg, want to lock it down to give them a monopoly or just slow it down to subject AI to thoughtful growth?
We didn’t have the answers, but we had a great discussion and there is surely more to come.
Next week, join us for a conversation on the Southern Workers Assembly, whose goal is to organize rank-and-file workers to achieve a level of worker power through building organization in all kinds of workplaces, uniting them in assemblies, and exercising sufficient power through collectively bargaining contracts with employers, workplace mobilizations, labor and community solidarity, and independent political action and their upcoming event in Savannah on October 24 and 25 designed to educate, organize and agitate to achieve these goals.
Early voting in GA begins 10/13 and we hope to have a conversation on that date with a representation of the League of Women Voters on how to become an educated voter and how to vote.
